1) A detailed budget (you can find forms on and search “budget”)
2) Once you have a budget, I use an envelope system.
I have a stack of envelopes, and every payday, after I do my budget, each envelope gets filled with cash for that category.
For instance, one envelope is marked “pizza/restaurants”
Every payday, that envelope gets $50. When it’s empty, I force myself to not buy any more pizza or eat at any more restaurants until the next payday.
